Bob Larson, the
founding pastor of Spiritual Freedom Churches International,
Inc. has a public life that spans over thirty years as a
rock musician, motivational speaker, author and radio talk
show and TV host. He entered university with plans to pursue
a career in medicine. After becoming a Christian at the age
of 20, he felt a call to ministry. He first traveled the
country and later the world as a motivational speaker and
evangelist to youth. In the early 1980’s, Bob began hosting
the daily nationally syndicated radio program "Talk Back
with Bob Larson." For over twenty years, “Talk Back”
featured incisive comments on pop culture and served as a
forum for controversial topics and guests. During his
international travels he became interested in occult
phenomenon, world religions, and alternative spirituality.
He witnessed demonic possession first hand during the many
religious rituals that he observed. He wondered whether
demonic possession happened back in the United States and
God began to show him that it did. People were constantly
led to Bob who were demonized, and out of those encounters
his ministry of exorcism and deliverance began.
As an
author, Bob's extensive research and writings on cults, the
occult, and supernatural phenomenon have made him one the
world's leading experts on alternative spirituality and
spiritual warfare. He has written thirty books with the most
recent being Larson’s Book of Spiritual Warfare and
Larson's Book of World's Religions and Alternative
Spirituality. The later is a revised and updated version
of his early standard reference work, "Larson's Book of
Cults."
In the
late '90's the Lord called Bob to take the ministry of
exorcism public and thus began the vision for the "Do What
Jesus Did” (DWJD) ministry. Bob raised up DWJD ministry
teams at his weekly Spiritual Freedom conferences held in
cities around the world. His goal was to plant enough teams
so that anyone in need of ministry would be no more than a
day’s drive from healing and exorcism. With the establishing
of over 100 DWJD teams in ten years, Bob’s goal has largely
been met. However, many who had been delivered and set free
by the DWJD ministry teams have had difficulty sharing their
testimonies and continuing to grow in freedom in their home
churches. This need compelled Bob to begin to transform the
ministry into a church based outreach. In 2004, the
Spiritual Freedom Churches International was formed. There
are now dozens of Spiritual Freedom Churches which have been
raised up or have associated with Pastor Larson’s
fellowship. Additionally, as the result of international
missions, there are DWJD teams and associated churches in
England, Germany, New Zealand, and South Africa. The
Spiritual Freedom Church of Phoenix was opened in May of
2006 and serves as Bob’s pulpit and the headquarters for the
denomination. It also serves as headquarters for the Center
for Spiritual Freedom where training institutes, retreats,
and conferences are held.
